Launch: The University Scholarship and Loan Fund
Launch is a program within Restore International, designed to provide more funding and opportunity for A-level graduates of the Restore Leadership Academy who are attending University in Uganda.
The average cost for a Ugandan student each semester at University is $400. While this amount may seem minute compared to the average cost of a college education in the United States, it is an enormous amount to a young adult in Uganda, and often the reason they are not able to continue their education.
Launch provides a small support to our graduates, and hopefully bridges the gap between University scholarships and need by providing grants and loans to students attempting to further their education. We will consult our local teachers and the University where the student will be attending before awarding any scholarships.
Upon completing or concluding their university education, the students have a responsibility to attempt to re-pay the loan so that there is a revolving fund to provide for further scholarships. In extreme financial hardship or other unforeseen difficulties, the students will not be held responsible to repay the loan, but ideally they will be able to learn more about responsibility and in turn, provide for younger generations to further their education as well.
The requirements of achieving a Launch Scholarship are as follows:
The student must be an A-level graduate of Restore Leadership Academy, in good standing.
The student must be accepted at an accredited University in Uganda.
The student must show financial need.
The student much apply for a scholarship using the Launch application and interview with the teachers and/or Restore staff.
The student must maintain passing grades and good standing at their University and report on their progress.
The student must commit to making a genuine effort to repay the scholarship to continue the revolving fund for future students.
After a Launch scholarship and/or loan has been granted, and an amount has been determined, Restore International Staff will coordinate with the University where the student will attend, and direct scheduled payments to the student’s account at the University.
Cost for the Sponsor:
While we will happily accept one-time donations and any amount of the sponsor’s choosing, we suggest a monthly pledge of $30.
